Least then itll be done A - quickly, B - keep it numbers matching, C - best of the best and a plus for when resale comes, D - I wont be worried or in any rush to sell it. I think your right, ill ring Hartech back and see what the damage would be if I had the car delivered to them. Sounds like it may have D chunked the cylinder wall? Sorry I have no advice of any worth to give you but just wanted to say sorry to read this and I hope whatever you decide you get things sorted very soon. Reconditioning yours with new blocks and having it rebuilt by hartech might be the strongest sustainable long-term solution. Taking a punt on a used engine is taking more risk I'd have thought. Replacmeent block possibly - Hartech do those and may give you a cost-effective solution. I think a Hartech rebuild might be under consideration as that will make it easier to sell on at a future date. Or more sensibly, get a replacement engine fitted with a years warranty. Wifes been understanding, not sure how far I want to push my "luck"

hummmmm £6k from the crate motor and £5k for the renegade conversion kit. Id like to rebuild it, but if its toast then perhaps ill look down the LS3 route.

So now could it be a possibility of cylinder liners or a cracked block? Either way my 911 engine knowledge is pretty limited so wont know until its stripped down. Next I removed two of the spark plugs, both soaking in the contaminated fluid, and with a borescope can see a lake nestling inside both cylinders.

I use this as my daily driver and last month was at the ring. Cant see where they would have come from, but couldn't have been there long as they surely would have jiggled out. I removed the air box and found two small chunks of ally. But I dug deeper as still doesn't explain what happened. Initial thought, head gaskets - not the end of the world and ill get them done. I got recovered home, so I pulled the dip stick, just dripping in runny mayo and very little coolant left in the header tank. Also there was zero oil pressure, but I now suspect that the engine had shut itself off and that's why the gauge was at zero. Their take was dropping a con rod / internal failure which cracked the block or head.Īs I pulled onto the motorway there was a bang with an instant loss of power, looked at the dash and the oil light was on. Thanks guys, sadly I spoke to Hartech and explained what happened. It might be worth posting up the symptoms of the failure for one of the more informed on here to give you some likely diagnoses of the potential nature of any repair?īlack 997 GT3 3.8 CS - Acquired for the 2012 season and beyondīlack 996 GT3 Mk2 - Gone, but will never be forgotten Not unheard of, but it is pretty unusual for a 996.1 to go. It is almost certainly going to be better to get it either rebuilt or a replacement engine in it prior to sale I reckon, but it is really a question for our resident car dealers. Probably £5k or less I reckon as if it isn't functional then you are really talking about the parts break up value. It reads like you want the car to live on and I expect it will be hard to sell the car as is, even if priced low.

Getting it mended is what id like to do of course as I love my car - and apart from that its mechanically spot on. Whilst working out the figures, I may cut my losses and sell as a great car but blown engine and save the hassle of getting the engine fitted / rebuilt. I need to pull the engine and strip it to see just what happened, but also im not under the illusion that im most likely looking at a replacement engine to go in. Just about to go to 103k miles and had a Minor service at the OPC December 15.

Full history, new discs / pads / tyres / droplinks / coffin arms etc. Would £5k in its current state be about right? or much less?Ĭar is a late 1998, C2 Tip. This was after just having an inspection by the OPC to say its in great mechanical order! Sods law eh.ĭoes anyone know the rough market value of cars with a blown engine? Man maths would say last week I could sell mine for £10k all day long, £12k if I wanted to wait due to the spec, history and condition. On Sunday my 996.1 decided it no longer wanted a working engine. Posted: Tue 9:48 am Post subject: Market price for a 996 with a blown engine?
